The basic calculation
Dimensional weight converts package volume into a weight-like value so large, lightweight packages can be compared with their actual weight.
DIM weight = length × width × height ÷ carrier divisorWorked example
For a 60 × 40 × 35 cm package using a 5000 divisor: 60 × 40 × 35 ÷ 5000 = 16.8 kg dimensional weight.
What to check before using the result
The divisor is not universal. Use the divisor and rounding rules supplied by the carrier or service you are evaluating.
Use the result as part of shipment preparation, then keep the final dimensions, weights and package counts consistent with the packing list, carrier instructions and other paperwork.
